Take a Breath

We’ve both had a very busy year. With the holidays, there were holiday parties, extra trips to the mall, tons of late night amazon shopping, and lots of overbooks in clinic due to holiday closures during the week. In addition, we’ve both been engaged in developing improved processes and procedures within our medical group, which has meant more time in meetings, communicating through emails, and onboarding new employees during a time of increased stress and confusion. But what does “busy” mean? According to the dictionary it can mean, “engaged in action”, “being in use”, or even “full of distracting detail”. I think we both agree we don’t want to be “busy”. We want to have purpose. We want meaning in our work. We aspire to create something special and to have meaningful relationships. We can’t do that if we are busy without being intentional. We are taking some time this week to reflect on the past year and to think about what we really want. We invite you to join us in asking yourselves these important questions: What drains me? What did I spend time doing this year that I want to do less of in the next year? What fills me up? And what steps can I take to prioritize doing more of the things that bring me joy and energize me? Consider sitting in a quiet space and taking a few deep breaths before writing down your answers. Then share them with a trusted friend. When we share our goals, we are more likely to follow through with them. Take care of yourselves and stay tuned for an exciting, renewed sense of purpose and aim in 2024.
